The Sewickley Public Library is pleased to welcome author and photographer, Michael Haritan this month for an engaging presentation on the aftermath from the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
Haritan, a Pittsburgh based commercial photographer, visited Chernobyl to document the site of what has been described as the “worst nuclear disaster” the world has ever seen. As one of the last professional photographers to capture the disaster site, Haritan’s personal photographs and video gives a haunting documentation of the nuclear reactor disaster site, the abandoned city of Pripyat, and other areas of the region. Haritan’s recently published book Chernobyl: Aftermath of the World’s Greatest Nuclear Disaster, features over 400 color photographs of Chernobyl’s Exclusion Zone. Copies of the book will be available for purchase after the presentation.
In addition to the presentation, select photographs from Haritan’s collection will be exhibited in the Reference Department in October.
All are welcome to attend this event.
