Program Description

Event Details

Master Gardener John Powell presents Gardening from Seed. In summer, you can enjoy your garden even more knowing that you cultured your plants from seed. You will save money, display unique plant varieties, and enjoy healthier plants.

Learn the basics of:

  • buying quality seeds
  • preparing seeds for success
  • optimizing growth
  • transplanting seeds to the garden

Everyone who attends this program will also go home with their own seeds to get started with gardening from seed.

Registration required.

John Powell loves the dirty jobs in the garden. He digs holes, fights thistle, spreads mulch, turns compost, and converts sod to garden. He happily leaves the pretty side of gardening to those who find their satisfaction in the fruits rather than the labor. John loves talking dirt, talking weeds, talking clay, and talking compost. Some people say he just loves talking! He had his first garden in 1958, planting marigolds in the shade. His garden successes came later, but always at the expense of turning compacted clayey dirt into tillable soil. John’s North Hills gardens are all conversions from lawn and contain a large selection of spring bulbs, peonies, daylilies, iris, dahlias, hosta, and allium. After years of getting dirty in the garden, John became a Master Gardener in 2017.
